Mary Jo Deegan receives 2008 Robin Williams Award

Mary Jo Deegan, author of a number of Transaction books, including Jane Addams and the Men of the Chicago School and most recently, editor of George Herbert Mead’s Self, War, and Society, received the 2008 Robin Williams Award for distinguished scholarship from the Peace and War section of the American Sociological Association. The award will be presented at the Boston meetings of the Association.

Foundations of Futures Studies by Wendell Bell has been voted the second Most Important Futures Work by the members of the Association of Professional Futurists. The books nominated included books in the recent past as well as books considered "classics."
Paths to Contemporary French Literature, Volumes 1 and 2 by John Taylor were named two of the Best Books of 2007 by Ready Steady Book, an independent British book review website working in association with The Book Depository.
Gary Becker, author of Economic Theory, receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

Congratulations to Economics Professor Gary Becker, author of Economic Theory, for receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom on November 6. Professor Becker, who is also the recipient of the 1992 Nobel Prize in the field, was honored for broadening the understanding of economics by the President of the United States.
Street Smart by Gabriel Roth was named one of the Best 10 Books of the Year 2007 in planning by Planetizen, the Planning and Development Network. Their website reads: “ In this provocative and enlightening compilation, the leading thinkers on privatization put forth market-based solutions for providing roadways and dealing with traffic congestion…. A valuable resource for understanding the argument for privatization.”
Irving Louis Horowitz received the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award in the History of Sociology at the annual meetings of the American Sociological Association in Montreal, Canada in August 2006.
